Matthew Thomas is an experienced HR professional with over 20 years’ experience in senior HR positions, having worked across various industry sectors from quasi state government through to commercial entities. He has specialised across all HR generalist functions within that period including employee relations, recruitment, organisational development, OSH & learning and development.
For the past five years he has occupied the position of General Manager HR with his key responsibilities being to align HR strategy to overall business strategy, change management, building leadership capability at various levels and implementing culture driven strategies designed to drive staff engagement and retention and at the same time achieve successful commercial outcomes. Matthew is also responsible for building and driving our organisation’s corporate social responsibility strategy and program through CommunityTAB.
Prior to his time in HR, Matthew held senior management roles working in retail, for companies such as Myer and Freedom Furniture, for over 15 years.
Having worked within the HR field for the period Matthew has it has presented him with some many great opportunities, opportunities he never contemplated when transitioning my career from retail to HR. Matthew recently joined the Australian Human Resource Institute mentor program, mentoring two aspiring HR individuals at different stages of their journey, as a way of giving back to a profession that has provided him with so much.
